An essential event; the Saint-Germain des Prés Jazz Festival
Published on 15 April 2019 in Entertainment
From May 16th to 27th, as Paris focuses on the French Open tennis championship, our preferred event takes place in Saint-Germain des Prés at the Jazz Festival. The team at your Hotel Les Theatres wholeheartedly recommends this wonderful programme of performances and concerts!
The spirit of the Saint-Germain des Prés Jazz Festival
The choice of Saint-Germain des Prés as the place to hold a jazz festival was by no means a random one. The streets of the Latin Quarter saw the nurturing of this style of music in Europe. The greatest international musicians, including Miles Davis, Count Basie and Charlie Parker, as well as Boris Vian and Django Reinhardt, played in the cellars and clubs of the district. It was therefore a total no-brainer to start a jazz festival there! The Saint-Germain des Prés Jazz Festival continues to fan the fires of openness, innovation, experimentation and the mixing of genres and styles that is at the very heart of jazz.
An exceptional programme
The Festival achieves a perfect balance between prestigious headliners, this year including Richard Galliano, Kellylee Evans and Erik Truffaz, and promising performers. The festival also includes thematic encounters such as Female Jazz, Jazz and Chat, and the After Jazz Club. Enthusiasts can indulge to their hearts’ content and neophytes will be swept up into a world just waiting for them to discover. The icing on the cake is that all these events take place in amazing places like the Maison des Océans, the Sorbonne, Fnac Montparnasse and the restaurant Le Lucernaire.
The 19th edition looks like it will be as good as the previous 18. Indeed, the Saint-Germain des Prés Jazz Festival is certain to further burnish its great reputation this year. With its high-quality programming, surprises and encounters, it confirms its key position on the international jazz scene. Don’t miss it!
